How 1.2 million people watched a Displate being turned into a LEGO set

Though we’re well underway cooking new projects for 2023, January feels like a perfect time to sum up all the Displate action of the past twelve months. And so we want to shine a well-deserved spotlight on one of 2022’s most unique community-driven Displate events. Here’s a story of how a quick talk at TwitchCon led to building a LEGO Displate replica this winter.

Displate, Twitch, and LEGO bricks

Last August, we went to Amsterdam to spread some Displate love at TwitchCon and generally have a blast doing that. While on our mission, we run into Brickin Nick, a professional brickbuilder, content creator, and streamer, who’s built a thriving community around his creative replicas and passion for LEGO. He happened to run a live session inviting everyone to build a huge Twitch logo out of LEGO bricks right in the middle of Amsterdam’s RAI Convention Centre. And of course, we joined him. Together with other TwitchCon attendees, we soon completed this magnificent brick construction. And once all the pieces were in place, we also had a quick chat with Nick and asked him if he was up for yet another challenge. He said YES. And so, once our team was back in Warsaw, we started planning our collaboration right away. Three months later, the stage was set. Just two days before the Black Friday sale craze, Nick went live on Twitch to face the Displate challenge. His mission: build a LEGO replica of the ‘Planet X’ Displate by Benny Productions. In less than 9 hours, Brickin Nick created a first-ever LEGO Displate. He really put his heart and imagination to this project, even adding some glowing elements to keep the cosmic vibes intact! And he did it all joined by thriving communities of LEGO passionates and Displate collectors – more than 1.2 million viewers in total.👀

Working with LEGO Master himself

Brick by brick, this is how we built our collaboration with Brickin Nick, invited the community to join the fun, and spread the word about our biggest sale of the year. Nick gave his masterpiece a perfect wrap by giving it away to his creative Instagram followers. But the story doesn’t end here. Shortly after he faced our challenge and helped us introduce even more collectors to the world of Displates, Brickin Nick was named the newest LEGO Master! Congratulations, Nick! And look, we’re not saying us bumping into each other on TwitchCon lead to you winning the title and meeting brickin’ Will Arnett. But you have to admit – all the pieces to this story just fit together.
